08 Center for Infectious Disease Research

The Center for Infectious Disease Research is leading basic and applied research to understand the infectious agents and to prevent and treat infectious diseases for responding to the public health emergencies related infectious diseases at the national level.

The Center for Infectious Disease Research is dedicated to better understand pathogenesis of infectious agents, to investigate the biological characteristics of pathogens, to treat and prevent infectious diseases by conducting researches and shaping national research agenda on viral, bacterial and emerging & vector-borne diseases, antimicrobial resistance, vaccines and pathogen resource bank.

Vision

Control tower leading national research on infectious diseases

Goal

Ensure core research skills and capabilities needed to overcome infectious diseases

  • Carrying out core researches for the imported infectious diseases
  • Scientific evidence for the management of acute and chronic infectious diseases
  • Securing technology and infrastructure for vaccine self-sufficiency capacity enhancement
  • Activation of domestic research of infectious diseases by securing diversity of pathogen resource and promoting utilization

Promotion Strategies

  • Strengthen network of industry-academia-national related researchers on the infectious diseases and operation of research forum for of infectious diseases
  • Ensure policy, budget and infrastructure to maximize infectious disease research capacity
  • Strengthening capacity for self-development of public vaccines and coordinating R & D control for vaccine
  • Establishment of global partnership and strengthen international cooperation on research for infectious diseases

Key Challenges

  • Preparation of the technology against novel, variant, and unknown infectious diseases
  • Strengthening of R&D ability to manage unidentified infections
  • Strengthening research for establishing national safety network of national controled infectious diseases
  • International cooperation to strengthening research on infectious diseases
